A newly discovered significant entrance to the castle. In the centre is a portcullis slot in a dressed red sandstone doorway. The doorway lies between the twin drum towers at the seaward (east) end of the site. The portcullis slot is the second such feature to have been discovered at the castle since the spring of 2019. In each case, the portcullis slot (i) confirmed the nature of, and (ii) revealed the sophistication of, the entrance in question. The first of the two portcullis configurations was discovered in 2019, and lies towards the west end of the castle.
