Work Party Completes New Castle Steps, Thanks to Cour Wind Farm

Great news!  At the work party this month, the long steps by the Castle's tower house were finished  -  and they look wonderful.

It was a mammoth task to get all the wood up there and the steps built on site.  The sides with the tread supports were made off-site by Duncan MacGregor Joiners.  Then, the volunteers concreted in the support posts, and cut and assembled the platforms, treads, and handrails.

Before all this could happen, of course, measurements had to be taken, plans drawn up, and wood ordered, etc.  It  was a tremendous team effort, and enormous thanks are due to everyone involved.

However, we still have more to do!

Now that the long set of steps is open to the public, the third and final set can now be replaced.  That set has been shut to the public, and will be removed and replaced over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, the new long set of steps provides an alternative route up to the tower house.

Our grateful thanks go to Cour Wind Farm, which provided the necessary funds.

The community orchard looks lovely at present, with the fruit trees in blossom.

Various tasks were carried out there by the work party, including clearing brambles, strimming, and handpicking caterpillars off the gooseberry bushes!
